Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about our auto locksmith services. Can't find what you're looking for? Give us a call — we're happy to help.

Key Replacement

Can you make a key if I've lost all my keys?

Yes — we can create a new key from your vehicle's VIN and immobiliser data even if you have no keys at all. This is called 'all-keys-lost' programming and we carry the specialist equipment to handle it on-site.

How long does it take to get a replacement car key?

Most standard key replacements are completed within 1–2 hours of our arrival. More complex smart/proximity keys may take a little longer. We'll give you an accurate estimate when you enquire.

Is it cheaper than going to a main dealer?

Yes — significantly. Our mobile key replacement is typically 40–70% cheaper than main dealer prices. Plus, you don't pay for vehicle recovery to get the car to the dealership, and you're not without your car for days.

Do I need to go anywhere or can you come to me?

We come to you. Our van is a fully-equipped mobile auto locksmith workshop. We can cut and programme keys at your home, workplace, or roadside — anywhere in Bridlington and the surrounding areas.

Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes — we programme the transponder chip and remote functions to match your vehicle exactly. The new key will lock/unlock the doors and start the engine just like the original.

What if my key has a remote fob or is a smart key?

We can replace all types — standard blade keys, transponder chip keys, remote flip keys, smart/proximity keys, and separate remote fobs. Tell us your vehicle details and we'll confirm what type you need.

Emergency Lockouts

I've locked my keys in the car — can you help?

Yes — this is one of the most common calls we get. We provide 24/7 emergency vehicle entry using specialist non-destructive tools. Average response time is 30–45 minutes.

Will you damage my car when opening it?

No — we use professional lock-picking and entry tools designed for modern vehicles. Non-destructive entry is the standard; we do not use coat hangers, wedges, or any method that risks damaging your paintwork, window seals, or locks.

What if my key is broken, not just locked in?

If your key has snapped in the lock or ignition, we can extract the broken piece without damaging the lock. If the key is damaged beyond use, we can cut and programme a replacement on-site.

How fast can you get to me in an emergency?

As a Bridlington-based locksmith, our average response time is 15–30 minutes in Bridlington itself, 25–40 minutes for surrounding towns like Filey and Driffield, and 35–50 minutes for Scarborough.

Spare Keys

Why should I get a spare key?

If you lose your only key, you're looking at an emergency callout — potentially at night or in bad weather — at a higher cost than getting a spare made while you still have a working key. A spare also lets you share the vehicle with family members and protects your car's resale value.

Can you make a spare from my existing key?

Yes — and it's the cheapest and fastest way. We duplicate your existing key, cut the blade to match, and programme the transponder chip and remote functions. Most spare keys are ready in under an hour.

Will a spare key work for starting the engine?

Yes — a fully programmed spare key will start the engine exactly like your original. We can also make a cheaper 'door-opening only' spare if you just want an emergency way into the car.

Ignition Repairs

My key won't turn in the ignition — what could be wrong?

Common causes include a worn ignition barrel (the internal wafers/pins wear down over time), a damaged or worn key, a seized steering lock, or an electrical fault. We can diagnose the exact issue on-site and fix it.

The key is stuck in the ignition — what should I do?

Don't force it — you could break the key or damage the ignition barrel further. Call us and we'll extract the key safely and repair the ignition. Forcing a stuck key often turns a simple fix into an expensive replacement.

Can you fix the ignition at my location?

Yes — most ignition repairs can be completed on-site from our mobile workshop. There's usually no need to have the vehicle recovered to a garage or dealership.

Pricing & Payment

Do you charge a callout fee?

No — there's no separate callout fee. The price we quote includes coming to your location, the work, and any parts needed. What we quote is what you pay.

How much does a car key replacement cost?

Prices start from around £80 for a basic blade key, £120–£180 for transponder keys, and £150+ for remote/smart keys — all including callout and programming. The exact price depends on your vehicle's make, model, and year. We'll give you a fixed quote before setting off.

Can you give me a fixed price before coming out?

Yes — we believe in upfront, honest pricing. Tell us your vehicle make, model, and year, and what service you need. We'll quote you a fixed price there and then. No hidden extras.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, bank transfer, and all major debit/credit cards. Payment is due on completion of the work.

What areas do you cover?
